Sambrak State Seed Farm
Established in the year 1978 The Sambrak State Seed Farm is located along the bank of river Chil at Gairong village, 6 Kms away from Wage A.si on the Wage Asi to Kharkutta link road under North Garo Hills district. The Agriculture Department acquired 128 hactares farmland from the then Nokma after payment of due land compensation.The Daresa Sarengma Farm, twin farm having 16 hactares located at about 10 Kms away from the Sambrak State Seed Farm was established much earlier during 1962. Out of which 5 has. areas were utilised by the Directorate of Horticulture for establishment of Horticulture Hub during 2010.These two farms were amalgamated as one unit and brought under the administrative control of the Farm Superintendent,Sambrak State Seed Farm.The combine area under the Farm presently is 139 hactares.
The farm is under the Department of Agriculture,Meghalaya. The Farm Superintendent is the Drawing and Disbursing Officer of the Farm. The District Agriculture Officer,North Garo Hills district is the Controlling Authority. There are 2 (Two) Assistant Directors to assist the Farm Superintendent in day to day activities of the Farm.
The Farm have no developmental programmes.The Farm implements only 1 (One) Programme under Head of Account : 2401 Crop Husbandry 103 Seeds (02) Seed Farm Sixth Scheduled Areas (Pt.II) Plan. Under this Production of Quality Seeds of Cereals,Coarse Cereals, Pulses and Oilseeds besides raising of Seedlings and Planting materials of some Horticultural crops were taken up.
The Objective of this Programme being:
1. Production/Multiplication of high yielding, good quality seeds of different field crops like paddy Maize,pulses and oilseeds etc. from foundation/breeder seeds for distribution to the different districts in the State of Meghalaya.
2. Maintanance of genuine mother plants,Scion Bank of horticultural crops from true to the type plants for production of true to the type planting materials.
3. Projecting the farm as role model in adoption of new and modern scientific methods of cultivation to help the farmers to follow the same for increasing productivity as well as production.
4. To facilitate as Training Centre for farmers for learning new and modern technologies of production and to adopt the same in their own land.
