The Directorate of Economics and Statistics is primarily engaged in the field of collection, tabulation, compilation, analysis, processing and
interpretation of Statistical information pertaining to various sectors of the economy and disseminating of the same to the user agencies.
The Objective is to coordinate of Statistical activities of all Departments of the state, monitoring and liaison with various agencies of Government and
supplying statistical data to Planners, Administrators in the form of reports to cater the needs of effective Planning Processes and administration of the
state. Besides following up the Central Statistical Organisation's guidelines in the matter of broad national Statistical system in the country and the state
as well, the Directorate also collects and compiles data generated by various other departments as part of the functions and Statistical activities.
The office of the District Statistical Officer is under the control of the Directorate of Economics and Statistics,Meghalaya. The Directorate of Economics
and Statisticsis established under the administrative control of the planning Department of the Government of Meghalaya.
To provide, reliable, timely and credible social and economic statistics, to assist decision making within and outside the government and underpin the
efforts to promote balanced economic and social development.To develop a coherent and consistent system of data collection, analysis and dissemination for
improving the credibility, timeliness, reliability and comparability of data generated at different levels, both across time and space.
The District Statistical offices at district level is charged with the responsibility of co-ordination of all statistical activities at the district level
and of keeping liaison with the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Meghalaya. The main functions of the District Statistical Office is to collect,
compile and disseminate important statistical information pertaining to the economy of the district, conduct socio-economic surveys as per guidance and
provide statistical information to various district offices, committees, groups and the research institutions at district level.
The primary function of the District Officers in the District is to supervise and to ensure that the field works by the field staff under them are carried
out as per time schedule and compilation and submission of the same is completed in time. The main objectives of this office is collection, compilation and
reporting of primary data relating to various sectors like agriculture, irrigation, price statistics and socio economic indicators etc. in respect of
North Garo Hills District. This office serves as a field agency for collection, compilation and submission of data relating to different sectors of the
economy to the Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Meghalaya, Shillong.
At the community and Rural Development Block there is one post of Sub-Inspector of Statistics in each of the 2 (Two) Community & Rural Development Block,
namely, Kharkutta and Resubelpara C &RD Block, who is responsible for collection and maintenance of various type of Statistics at Block level. The District
Statistical Officer of the Districts exercises administrative control over the Sub-Inspector in the Block and under the operative control of the Block
